40 - Oncology Antibody Drug Conjugates: Adapting Pharmacist Education to Emerging Practice Gaps

Background
Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) offer targeted cancer therapy but are associated with complex toxicity profiles. Some toxicities appear early, while others emerge later. Pharmacists play a critical role in managing adverse effects (AEs), optimizing treatment, and educating patients and healthcare providers. Their involvement has been shown to improve outcomes and reduce treatment-related complications. As clinical experience grows, pharmacist-targeted education must evolve to address emerging toxicity patterns and practice gaps.

Objective
This study evaluated how continuing education (CE) programs focused on ADC-related toxicities for oncology pharmacists evolved in response to real-world evidence and shifting learner needs.

Methods
Nine activities conducted from 2023 to 2025 were included in the analysis. Programs spanned multiple tumor types and included case-based learning. Pharmacist demographics, and baseline knowledge, competence, and confidence, were assessed through a pretest survey. Following activities, confidence, knowledge, planned practice changes, and barriers to implementing changes were assessed. Educational objectives were categorized into six thematic areas: pharmacology, efficacy/guidelines, gastrointestinal AEs, ocular AEs, other AEs, and biomarker use. Data were compared for trends in thematic categories and pivotal learners’ outcomes, including knowledge, competence, and confidence.

Results
A total of 11,064 pharmacist learners (6248 live; 4816 on-demand) participated across the 9 programs. 31 assessment questions and 13 practice pattern questions were evaluated. Early programming focused on GI toxicities, such as nausea, vomiting, and stomatitis, which were identified as challenging in clinical practice. As ADCs with distinct toxicity profiles gained approval, education shifted toward proactive monitoring and prevention strategies. Thematic trends reflected an evolution in content to align with emerging data and practice needs. Ongoing analysis assessment by practice setting, role, and pivotal learners (≥25% of role in cancer care).

Conclusions
As the ADC landscape advances, pharmacist education must remain proactive and responsive. These findings demonstrate timely adaptation to emerging toxicity patterns and real-world practice challenges.
